Lars Iver Strand (born May 7, 1983 in Lakselv ) is a former Norwegian football player .

Club career

Career start at Posanger FK

Strand began his career in the youth of his home club Porsanger FK (Porsanger IL since 2005 after merging with Lakselv IL ). As the club's greatest talent, he made his debut at the age of 15 in the club's senior team in the Norwegian third division. In his first season he became the club's top scorer.

Breakthrough at Tromsø IL

His talent did not go unnoticed by the major Norwegian clubs and so he signed his first professional contract with Tromsø IL in 2001 . In his first year he only came to two seasons and had to relegate with the club to the Adeccoligaen . After relegation, the club increasingly relied on its own talents and Strand was given a regular place. Together with Morten Gamst Pedersen , who was also emerging at the time , he then formed an extremely dangerous offensive team, the interaction of which could hardly be calculated. At the end of the season he celebrated with the club the sovereign title win in the Adeccoligaen and the associated immediate promotion.

After the promotion, they managed to stay in the league in the following season as eleventh in the table, before they played for the title in the Tippeligaen for a long time in the 2004 season and ended up fourth in the table. Over the years, Pedersen and Strand had developed from talents to seasoned players who aroused the interest of various clubs, including across the borders of Norway. While Pedersen moved to the Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League for the 2005/06 season , Strand was still loyal to his club for the time being.

However, the sale of Pedersen had left a qualitative gap in the team that could no longer be compensated. The loss was particularly heavy for Strand, as he had not only lost his congenial partner, but also his best friend. In 2005 he advanced to Norway's national team , but subsequently bobbed around in midfield with Tromsø until 2008.

Stagnation at Vålerenga

As a result, he moved to the highly ambitious Vålerenga Fotball in Oslo within the league due to a lack of perspective . In Norway, a similar development was expected as a result of Pedersen, who became even stronger after his move. But the season was sobering for the player. Strand found it difficult to integrate into the new system from player-coach Martin Andresen and almost completely lost his scoring risk. After a few below average performances he found himself on the bench more and more often. At the end of the season he had completed 19 season games without scoring. Too little for Vålerenga, who had signed him as a dangerous midfielder. The only highlight was winning the Norwegian Cup competition, which, however, could not hide the disappointing season of Strand.

Back in Tromsø on loan

In 2009 he was then awarded to his old place of work Tromsø IL for a year . He found his way around his old club straight away and was able to stabilize his performance. Among other things, he scored two goals against Lillestrøm SK and his actual employer Vålerenga. At the end of the season he finished 6th in the table with the club. Strand contributed 4 goals in 26 league games.

Strömsgodset IF

On December 28, 2011, Strand signed a contract with Strømsgodset IF until December 31, 2012.

National team

Strand first appeared in 1998 as a Porsanger player for the Norwegian U-16 team. This was followed by drafts into the U-17 team before he became a permanent part of the Norwegian U-21 national team as a Tromsø player for 2 years .

At the beginning of 2005 he was called up for the first time by coach Åge Hareide for the friendly international matches against Kuwait , Bahrain and Jordan in the senior national team . He was used in all three games.

His last international match so far (as of November 8, 2009) , he completed on April 20, 2005 in Norway's 1: 2 away win against Latvia .
