Parish Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste

The parish was once a subsidiary parish of Molez, which no longer exists today. The former church was devastated in the Huguenot Wars . Today's relatively small church dates from the 18th century and has recently undergone external and internal repairs. The nave is flanked in the north by a side aisle . It is extended by a three-walled choir , to which the sacristy is attached to the south . In the west, the facade is crowned with a pyramid-shaped helmet that is covered with slate . The rectangular door of the front hall allows entry into the interior of the church. The altarpieces and tabernacles of the church are remarkable . They suffered from subsidence, insect infestation and dry rot , which caused the loss of individual elements and a large part of the gilding. The complete restoration restored the splendor and expression of the works. Fine, twisted columns structure the tabernacle, on which a cherub can be seen above the door , on its sides in the inclined statuettes of St. Peter and Paul . Mary and Joseph are depicted in bas-reliefs on the wings . Above a fine balustrade , a niche hides the statue of Mary with baby Jesus between two busts . The retable consists of three parts, which are separated by pilasters , flower garlands and foliage and framed by large volutes . The patron saint of the church, Saint John the Baptist , is depicted on the central wing . In his left hand he holds a cross with an oriflame , in the other a bowl to collect the water for baptism, which gushes out of a rock. A lamb can be seen at his side, a symbol of Christ . On the side wings of the reredos there are large statues of Saints Peter and Paul. Above the cornice, crowns with large flower vases alternate . To round off the overall work, the ceiling in the choir is decorated in the middle with a stucco rosette , in the reveal of the entrance arch of the choir a dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and a kneeling angel on each of the two arches .

Source Saint Jean or Source du Salut

It is located in the state forest of Lussagnet in the south-eastern part of the municipality. The source has been mentioned in the scriptures since the 17th century. According to popular belief, the effectiveness of the healing power of water is highest at the summer solstice on June 21 at midnight. But until 1940, Catholics celebrated a festival here on June 23rd and 24th, the name day of John the Baptist. They bathed in water, which was presumably heated in kettles and filled in bathtubs. Balls and bowling games were organized on these two days. Traders and cooks supplied the participants. After this custom has been abandoned, the spring basin only serves as a cattle trough. According to legend, sorceresses gathered herbs and the sick came to bathe in the spring water.
