Le Frêche is a French commune of 400 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Adour Armagnac (until 2015: canton of Villeneuve-de-Marsan ).

The name in the Gascognischen language is Frèishe . It is derived from the Gascognischen word hreishèda ( German  ash forest ).

The inhabitants are called Fréchois and Fréchoises .

Le Frêche is located about 25 km east of Mont-de-Marsan in the historical province of Armagnac (region) in the historical province of Gascogne on the eastern border with the neighboring department of Gers .

history

During the reorganization of the territories during the French Revolution , the new municipality was named Freche. Between 1790 and 1794 the municipality of Goussiés was annexed to the municipality of Freche. In 1801 the municipality was given the name Le Frèche, and from 1962 the current name Le Frêche.

Le Frêche had a stop on the railway line of the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi , which connected Mont-de-Marsan with Nérac in the Lot-et-Garonne department . The last section from Mézin to Mont-de-Marsan was opened on December 12, 1897. Due to a lack of profitability, passenger traffic on the non-electrified, single-lane route was discontinued in 1938, and finally freight traffic in 1969.

Population development

After a peak in the number of inhabitants of around 1,065 in the middle of the 19th century, the number fell with several short recovery phases and has stabilized at a level of around 390 inhabitants since the 1990s.

Parish partnership

During the Second World War, Le Frêche took on residents from Helfrantzkirch. For this reason, the municipality has had a partnership with Helfrantzkirch in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region since 1982 .

Attractions

Saint-Pierre church

Residential houses are built on its southern wall. To the west, a square bell tower rises above the vestibule, which is equipped with a slate- covered helmet . It has arched arcades and window openings which are surmounted by a frieze supported by consoles .

Church of Saint-Vidou

Your nave has arched windows and an entrance on the south side. It is lengthened by a semicircular choir lined with semicircular side chapels . Arched windows in the apse let light into the choir and alternate on the outside with beveled buttresses . To the west, a square bell tower rises from the building above the vestibule, which is equipped with a slate- covered helmet . Two residential buildings with a rectangular floor plan are attached to this bell tower.

Tampouy fixed house

On February 17, 1343, Guilhem Arnaud de Labarthe, Seigneur of Gardères and Tampouy from Aliénor de Comminges, Viscountess of Béarn and Marsan, received permission to build a permanent house on a hill above the right bank of the Midouze. In the second half of the 15th century or in the first half of the 16th century it was converted into a more comfortable house. Window openings were created on the north side and a stair tower was built. At the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century, a wing was added in an L-shaped arrangement to the south. At least one floor was demolished at the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century. Around 1995 the building was completely renovated. The first, northern part of the building is made of bricks . the added later south wing of quarry stone from limestone . Both wings have elongated roofs that are covered with hollow tiles. Nearby is an 18th century sheepfold which is a fine example of rural architecture. The Feste Haus and the sheepfold have been inscribed as Monument historique since July 3, 2009 .

Le Frêche is located in the AOC areas of Armagnac (Armagnac-Ténarèze, Bas Armagnac and Haut Armagnac), Blanche-Armagnacs, and Floc de Gascogne , a liqueur wine .

The green path ( Voie verte du Marsan et de l'Armagnac ) from Mont-de-Marsan to Gabarret also leads through the municipality of Le Frêche. The former route of a railway line is an ideal course for pedestrians, cyclists and riders.
