geography
The municipality of Lannemaignan is located in the Armagnac countryside in the extreme northwest of the Gers department, about 37 kilometers east of Mont-de-Marsan and 73 kilometers northwest of Auch . In the north, west and south, the municipality borders on the Landes department . The Midou flows through the municipality and here describes an arc that stretches far north. The landscape of the 8.58 km² municipal area is divided into two parts: in the south-western half, alluvial forest predominates in the flat Midoutal, in the north-eastern half a few hills exceed the 100-meter contour line. Here the landscape shows an alternation of fields, meadows, small wooded areas, vines and reservoirs. The center of the hamlet of Lannemaignan is at the highest point in the municipality at 116 m above sea level. The community consists of numerous hamlets and several individual farms. The largest hamlets are Lannemaignan, Bel-Air, Bilan, Basque, Baraillon, Matalin, Tachouzin, Cardayre, Lahéougère, Téoulérot and Poutéou . Lannemaignan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Labastide-d'Armagnac (Landes) in the north, Mauléon-d'Armagnac in the east, Castex-d'Armagnac in the southeast, Montégut (Landes) in the south, Arthez-d'Armagnac (Landes) ) and Le Frêche (Landes department) in the northwest.
Place name
Translated from the Gascon language, Lannemaignan means "The Crescent", which, by the way, also applies to the town of Lannemezan to the south-west .
In 1801 the municipality was called Lanne-Meignan .
1837, the community was Tachouzin amalgamated with Lannemaignan.
