history

Today's town center emerged from a bastide founded in 1289 . Saint-Clar is one of the few places that originally emerged from two bastides. The old bastide, founded in 1274, is no longer preserved as such. The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Lectoure. In addition, Saint-Clar was the capital of the canton of Saint-Clar from 1801 to 2015 . The parish was assigned to the Arrondissement of Lectoure from 1801 to 1926. This was dissolved in 1926 and the municipality part of the Condom arrondissement.
