Larroque-Saint-Sernin ( Gascon : La Ròca Sent Sarnin) is a French commune with 167 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the commune association La Ténarèze . The residents call themselves Larroquois / Larroquoises .
geography
Larroque-Saint-Sernin is located around 16 kilometers southeast of Condom and 22 kilometers northwest of Auch in the Ténarèze landscape in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of the village of Larroque-Saint-Sernin and numerous scattered settlements and farmhouses. There are numerous vineyards that belong to the Ténarèze viticole region . The river Auloue crosses the municipality in a northerly direction and in parts forms the western municipal boundary.
Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Puy in the north, La Sauvetat in the northeast, Réjaumont in the southeast, Cézan in the south, Castéra-Verduzan in the southwest and west, and Ayguetinte in the west and northwest.
history
In the Middle Ages, Larroque-Saint-Sernin was located within the county of Condomois (also called Ténarèze), which was part of the historical landscape of Gascony and shared its fate. The municipality has been part of the Condom arrondissement since 1851 and was part of the Valence-sur-Baïse canton from 1851 to 2015 . The municipality was created in 1851 by separating areas of the previous municipality of Saint-Puy.
Population development
The development of the population is typical for a French rural community. After growth between 1861 and 1886, several waves of emigration followed. Between 1861 and the low point, the number of residents decreased by 75.8 percent. Since 2006 the population has stabilized at a low level.
