La Sauvetat ( Gaskognisch La Sauvedat ) is a French commune with 368 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the municipality association Lomagne Gersoise . Its inhabitants call themselves Sauvetois / Sauvetoises .
geography
La Sauvetat is located around 24 kilometers north-northwest of the city Auch in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of the village of La Sauvetat, the hamlets of Empeyron , Guiraud and Menjoulet and individual farmsteads. In terms of traffic, it is located away from major traffic routes on the D654.
history
La Sauvetat is located in Lomagne , which was a vice-county in the Middle Ages. The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Lectoure. It was also the capital of the canton of La Sauvetat from 1793 to 1801. Thereafter, La Sauvetat was within the canton of Fleurance from 1801 to 2015 . The parish was assigned to the Arrondissement of Lectoure from 1801 to 1926. This was dissolved in 1926 and the municipality part of the Condom arrondissement.
