history
The canton was created on March 22, 2015 as part of the reorganization of the cantons. Until 2015, its communes belonged to the cantons of Fleurance (20 communes) and Saint-Clar (13 communes).

In the second ballot on March 29, 2015, the duo Charlette Boué / Bernard Gendre (Union de la gauche) won against Grégory Bobbato / Catherine Cournot (Divers droite) and Nathalie Bernède / François Buzet ( FN ) with a share of 51 votes .22% (turnout: 61.96%).
