The approximately 35 km long Río Ambroz (on the last 10 km of its course it is also called Río Cáparra ) is a tributary of the Río Alagón in the north of the province of Cáceres in the autonomous region of Extremadura in western Spain .

The Río Ambroz rises - depending on the strength and duration of the rainfall - at an altitude of around 1800 to 2000 m on the western slope of the 2102 m high Canchal Pinajarro in the Sierra Cabrera ; it initially flows west to take a predominantly south-westerly direction at Abadía . Its confluence with the Río Alagón is in the municipality of Guijo de Granadilla .

Attractions
Worth seeing are the initially wooded, later arid mountain and hill landscapes in the Valle del Ambroz as well as the small town of Hervás with its approx. 4,000 inhabitants with its still preserved former Jewish quarter (judería) . The Roman bridge of Cáparra crosses the river about 4 km before it flows into the Río Alagón .
