Roman bridge

As a Roman bridge several bridges are German-speaking area designated by the Romans were built. The name is also used for numerous old bridges, some of which date from much later eras. In the Romansh- speaking area, the term Römerbrücke (or Roman Bridge ) is also used in the respective national language for a number of bridge structures of different ages.

  • The Roman bridge in Scheibbs was built in 1554.
  • The Roman bridge in Bad Vigaun (Salzburg) was built in 1613.
  • The Roman bridge in Grins (Tyrol) was completed around 1550.
  • The Roman bridge near Tösens (Tyrol) corresponds in form and construction to the Roman bridge construction technology, but probably dates from the Middle Ages.

  • The Roman bridge over the Dala, which connects Inden and Leuk (Wallis), was built in 1539 by the builder Ulrich Ruffiner .
  • The Ponte dei Salti near Lavertezzo in Valle Verzasca (Canton Ticino) was built in post-Roman times, but is incorrectly referred to in travel guides as the Roman Bridge or Ponte Romano .
  • The Ponte Romano in Aquila in the Ticino Blenio Valley was also built in post-Roman times. The bridge, built in 1461, is one of the oldest preserved in Switzerland.
  • Also in Ticino, near Intragna , is the Ponte Romano , which was built in 1578 and crosses the Melezza.
