The Ponte Romano is a modern road bridge in the Italian commune of Acquasanta Terme ( called Ad Aquas in Roman times ), province of Ascoli Piceno , Marche region , over the Garrafo, a tributary of the Tronto .
Today's seven-arched road bridge is built on a single main arch spanning the river, which dates back to Roman times. This was part of a bridge built at the beginning of the 1st century AD under the Roman emperor Augustus and was part of the ancient consular road Via Salaria , an important supply route between Rome and the Adriatic coast that was developed under the consul Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo .
In the municipality of Acquasanta Terme there are two other Roman bridges, the Ponte di Quintodecimo and the Ponte d'Arli, which have been completely preserved. In the nearby town of Ascoli Piceno there is another Roman bridge construction of the Via Salaria, the Ponte Romano di Solestà .
