history

Before the middle of the 13th century, the village was a so-called Castelnau . A Castelnau ( German  Neuburg , Occitan castèl nòu , in Vulgar Latin castellum novum ) is a village or town that was founded near a castle in the Middle Ages . The place was provided with a city wall, a gate and a suburb to the west. The extent of the fenced plot was probably 80 mater × 100 meters around the current church. Three landlord families exercised jurisdiction in 1283. The church was built in the 17th century and has some remains of a building from the late Middle Ages. Today there are no further traces from this time in the church.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of around 550 by the first half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to its lowest level of 130 inhabitants, with intermittent recovery phases, by the 1990s before it settled down stabilized at this level.

Parish Church of Saint-André

The present sacristy of the church with a barrel vault could originally be a chapel from the 12th century. Based on the indication of the year 1612 , it can be assumed that the nave , choir and bell gable were built at the beginning of the 17th century. According to another inscription, the building was restored in 1853.

Notre-Dame-des-Neiges chapel

The building was probably built in the 11th century from a small masonry bond of rubble stones . The western wall of regular masonry with its bell gable and the southern entrance were probably built in the 13th century. The apse has a semicircular shape. The outer walls are partially plastered, the roof is covered with hollow tiles.

lock

The origins probably go back to the 13th century. From 1582 onwards the residential building was changed and a stair tower was added. After 1882 the two-story residential building was extended to the south. The castle is privately owned and not open to the public.
