Courrensan ( Gascon : Corrensan ) is a French municipality with 403 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Okzitanien ; it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the community association Communauté de communes du Grand-Armagnac .
geography
Courrensan is about 36 kilometers northwest of the small town. Also in the northwest of the Gers department and belongs to the Armagnac brandy area .
The municipalities include Cadignan, Courrensan, Jouanhaut, Pouchon, Roussa and numerous individual farms.
history
The name of the community (Villa des Corenthus) indicates settlement as early as Gallo-Roman times. It was first mentioned directly in a church document in 1062. Both the place and the castle have existed since the 13th century at the latest. Between 1436 and 1440 and during the Huguenot Wars, Courrensan was sacked and destroyed. And then rebuilt. However, these warlike events lead to a gradual decline in the community. Courrensan historically belongs to the Comté de (Vic-) Fezensac region within Gascon . The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Condom. Also from 1793 to 1801 to the canton of Gondrin and 1801 to 2015 to the canton of Eauze .
