Attractions

Parish Church of Saint Vincent

Apse of the parish church of Saint-Vincent

Their origins go back to the Middle Ages . The single-nave nave merges into a semicircular apse , which is provided with four supporting pillars . The nave is covered with a barrel vault made of industrially manufactured bricks. The vault of the choir probably received its Romanesque vault , which is now embellished with a neo-Gothic trompe-l'oeil painting. The church has been registered as a Monument historique since December 31, 2014 .

Many of the church's furnishings are classified as Monument historique :

  • an 18th century painting depicting Christ crucified
  • a statue made of gilded wood from the 18th century depicting Mary with baby Jesus
  • a 15th or 16th century stone sculpture with the head of Christ
  • a painting from 1709 depicting the Pietà
  • a late 18th century painting depicting the apostle Peter
  • a late 18th century painting depicting the Apostle Paul
  • a painting from 1813 depicting Saint Vincent.

Chapel of the Sainte-Christie Hospital

West of the center of Cravencères, on a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, there was the Commandery of the Sainte-Christie Hospital , led by the Order of Malta . A chapel from the end of the 12th century that was originally dedicated to John the Baptist remains today . The very simple building consists of a nave with a length of three bays and a flat closed apse. It has two entrances: on the west facade an entrance portal with two simple round arches and on the south side a small portal with a canopy. The other buildings of the Commandery were destroyed during the Huguenot Wars . Around 1538 the Protestants used the stones to reinforce the fortifications in Manciet.

Many pieces of equipment in the chapel are classified as monument historique :

  • Altar retable and tabernacle made of painted and gilded wood from the 18th century
  • a painting from 1773 on the east wall of the choir with the biblical scene of the Annunciation
  • a painting from 1773 on the east wall of the choir depicting the biblical scene of the Assumption of Mary
  • an 18th century painting depicting the patron saint Clare of Assisi
  • a choir screen made of painted wood, created around 1738
  • a 17th century painting above the main altar depicting John the Baptist.
