Roquepine ( Gascon : Rocapina) is a French municipality with 36 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Occitania (2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the municipality of Ténarèze . The residents call themselves Roquepinois / Roquepinoises .
geography
Roquepine is around nine kilometers southeast of Condom and 31 kilometers northwest of Auch in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of hamlets, numerous scattered settlements and individual farmsteads. The Auvignon river partially forms the eastern boundary of the municipality.
Neighboring communities are Blaziert in the north, northeast and east, Mas-d'Auvignon in the southeast, south and southwest and Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit in the west.
history
Roquepine belonged to the District Condom and the Canton of Saint Puy from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801, the community has been assigned to the Condom arrondissement. Roquepine belonged to the canton of Valence-sur-Baïse from 1801 to 2015 .
Population development
The community shows a development typical of French rural communities with a strong loss of population since the early 19th century. The population grew rapidly between 1793 and 1831. This was followed by a first wave of emigration by 1866. After a short growth phase from 1866 to 1876, a second wave of emigration followed until 1901. Between 1901 and 1921, the population changed only insignificantly. Today the population is at an all-time low (1831–2016: −86.5 percent).
