Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit ( Gascon : Sent Orens e Poi Petit) is a French commune with 193 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the commune association La Ténarèze . The residents call themselves Saint-Orinois / Saint-Orinoises .
geography
Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit is about 7 kilometers southeast of Condom and 32 kilometers northwest of Auch in the Ténarèze landscape in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of the village of Saint-Orens, the hamlet of Pouy-Petit and numerous scattered settlements and farmsteads. There are numerous vineyards that belong to the Ténarèze viticole region . The river Gèle crosses the municipality and in parts forms the western municipal boundary.
Neighboring communities are Caussens in the north, Blaziert in the northeast and east, Roquepine in the east, Mas-d'Auvignon in the southeast, Saint-Puy in the south, Maignaut-Tauzia in the southwest and Béraut in the west and northwest.
history
In the Middle Ages Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit was within the county Condomois (also called Ténarèze) which is a part of the historic landscape Gascogne was and shared their fate. From 1793 to 1801, Saint-Orens belonged to the canton of Condom and Pouy-Petit to the canton of Saint Puy. Both also belonged to the District Condom. Since 1801, both communities have been assigned to the Condom arrondissement and belonged to the canton of Valence-sur-Baïse from 1801 to 2015 . The municipality was created in 1841 by the union of Saint-Orens (1831: 332 inhabitants) and Pouy-Petit (1831: 139 inhabitants) to form today's municipality of Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit.
Population development
The development of the number of inhabitants is typical for a French rural community. After growth between 1793 and 1831, several waves of emigration followed since 1896. Between 1831 and the lowest point, the number of residents decreased by 70.3 percent. Since 2011, the population has increased significantly as a result of immigration (2011–2016: + 28.6 percent).
