Cassaigne ( Gaskognisch Cassanha ) is a French commune with 221 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the commune association La Ténarèze . The residents call themselves Cassaignais / Cassaignaises .

geography

Cassaigne is located around 35 kilometers northwest of Auch in the north of the Gers department. The community consists of numerous scattered settlements and individual farmsteads. There are numerous vineyards.

Neighboring communities are Condom in the north and east, Vic-Fezensac in the northeast, Maignaut-Tauzia in the east, Valence-sur-Baïse in the southeast and south and Mouchan in the southwest and west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Cassaigne was in the county of Vic-Fezensac within the Armagnac region in the historic Gascony region and shared its fate. Cassaigne belonged to the Canton of Valence and District Condom from 1793 to 1801. Cassaigne has been assigned to the Condom arrondissement since 1801 and belonged to the Condom canton from 1801 to 2015 . The municipality of Cassaigne has only existed in its current size since 1837. At that time, the municipalities of Cassaigne (1831: 380 inhabitants) and Flarembel (1831: 145 inhabitants) united to form today's municipality.
