Catonvielle is a French commune with 97 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Condom (until 2016: Arrondissement Auch ) and the canton Gimone-Arrats (until 2015: Canton Cologne ).
The inhabitants are called Catonviellois and Catonvielloises .
geography
Catonvielle is located about 30 kilometers east of Auch in the historic province of Armagnac on the eastern edge of the department.

Catonvielle lies in the catchment area of the Garonne River .
The Sarrampion , a tributary of the Gimone , flows along the eastern border of the municipality. Catonvielle is also irrigated by the Ruisseau d'en Carrignan, a tributary of the Marcaoue .
history
In 1821 the former municipality of Montagnac was incorporated into Catonvielle.
Population development
After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of around 205 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, with intermittent recovery phases, the size of the community fell to its lowest level of around 60 inhabitants by the turn of the millennium, before a phase of growth began has recently stagnated again.

Attractions
- Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul parish church from the 18th century. Three of their pieces of equipment are classified as Monument historique :
- a painting from the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century depicting the Descent from the Cross ,
- a copper collector's plate from the 17th century and
- a chasuble and a stole from the early 19th century.
- Montagnac castle ruins with an octagonal tower by a 19th century town house
- Montagnac windmill
Economy and Infrastructure
The municipality's economy is predominantly agricultural. Catonvielle is located in the AOC zone of the Ail violet de Cadours garlic variety .
