Blaziert ( Occitan Blasièrt ) is a French commune with 134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Condom and the municipality association La Ténarèze, founded in 1999 . The residents call themselves Blaziértois .

The municipality of Blaziert is located in the Armagnac landscape about halfway between Condom and Lectoure , 35 kilometers south of Agen and 38 kilometers north of Auch . The municipal area of ​​10.97 km² extends on the upper reaches of the Auvignon river in the hill country between the two parallel north-facing river valleys of Baïse and Gers . The municipality consists of the villages Blaziert, Maintenon, Castéra, Bajonne, Gaichies, Bladé and Chibalé as well as other small hamlets and individual farms. Outside the 25 hectare Bois du Haget forest in the south-west of the municipality, Blaziert is characterized by fields and meadows; Several small reservoirs are also characteristic, which are used for irrigation and flood protection. In the southeast the highest point of the municipality is reached at 222 m above sea level. Here, near the hamlet of Le Piémont , there is a water tower. Blaziert is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Castelnau-sur-l'Auvignon in the north, Marsolan in the east, Terraub in the southeast, Mas-d'Auvignon in the south, Roquepine in the southwest, Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit in the west and Caussens in the northwest.

Place name and history

The name could Blaziert from Occitan blase be derived what tree of Judea means the Gascon form Blasier ( maple is). The root of blasièr is ber , which is also called alder . In 2001, three trees were symbolically planted around the village, a tree from Judea, a maple and an alder.

In the 12th and 13th centuries, a fortress and an adjacent residential castle were built on the site of today's village square. The village of Blaziert has not changed much since the 16th century. The village was shaped like a parallelogram; there were fortified gates at the north and south ends.

The Saint-Blaise church ( St. Blaise ) was built in the 19th century instead of a previous building that had burned down. For reasons of space, it was squeezed between two farmhouses and is not rusted .

Economy and Infrastructure

Blaziert is not a wine-growing place. Immediately to the northwest and north of the municipality, vines are used for the production of Armagnac brandy and for the aperitif Floc de Gascogne . 23 farms are located in Blaziert (grain and feed cultivation, goat, sheep and poultry breeding).

The D7 trunk road from Condom to Lectoure runs through the north of the municipality of Blaziert . The next motorway junction is 35 kilometers north near Agen ( Autoroute A62 from Bordeaux to Toulouse ). Agen station is on the Bordeaux – Sète railway line .
