history

Finds of several megaliths on the territory of the municipality show that it has been populated since prehistory . Classun developed around a castle that was built in the 13th century, of which only a ruin remains today. The castle was owned by the Lucmau family, whose renowned member was Jean Lucmau de Classun (1568–1653), who was a well-known cartographer in his day . Despite being a Protestant , he designed one of the oldest known maps of the Aire diocese . They were published in Paris in 1635 by the illuminator Jean Boisseau . Classun had its own court until 1789. During the French Revolution , the castle served as a refuge for pastors in the region.

Population development

After a peak of the population of 475 in the middle of the 19th century, the number fell to around 155 after several short recovery phases until the 1980s, before a period of strong growth began, which continues today.
