Attractions

  • Parish church dedicated to John the Baptist . It was built in the 13th century, which underlines its semicircular apse . It is reinforced with three buttresses with water noses, which were probably added at a later time. The church is built from rubble stones made from shell or iron sandstone and covered with yellowish plaster. Rosettes are embedded in the wall between the buttresses and are edged with ashlar made of sandstone. Four more rosettes can be seen on the south facade, while two Romanesque windows in the north facade illuminate the interior of the church. The bell tower above the entrance porch is the result of a restoration. It is supported in the middle by two buttresses.
  • Artassenx Castle. In the 18th century it replaced the castle built by Odon de Clarac on a Roman burial mound in the 13th century . The La Faye de Guerre family had the castle built in the Louis-quinze style by Victor Louis , architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux . At the beginning of the 20th century it was demolished again and rebuilt according to the taste of the era. It did, however, retain a beautiful 18th century terrace and a park. Race horses have been bred in the palace complex since the 19th century.
