At the beginning of the 20th century there were even two inns.

After a peak in the number of inhabitants of 655 in the middle of the 19th century, the number fell to around 190 inhabitants during several short recovery phases by the 1980s, before the size of the community increased moderately.

Attractions

Parish Church of Saint-Aignan

The parish church, consecrated to Aignan von Orléans , has vestiges of the pre-Romanesque period from the 10th century. The apse , which dates from the 11th century, is flat and characteristic of the churches in the region. It had an entrance narrowed by thick pillars, which today serves as a sacristy . During the Hundred Years' War the church was destroyed in 1373 and again in the Huguenot Wars and rebuilt in the 19th century. The light falls through arched windows into the neo-Gothic nave with a nave and into the transverse arms of the transept. To the west, a bell tower rises from the building, which is equipped with a pyramid-shaped helmet with dormer windows, which is covered with slate . At its foot there is the entrance portal , above it a rose window and round-arched twin windows . A former baptismal font can also be seen at the foot of the bell tower . The interior decoration evokes the patron saint , Saint Aignan, Bishop of Orléans in the fifth century.

Lacquy Castle

Originally the property belonged to the noble De Mesmes family. In 1711 François Lubet became Baron and Seigneur von Lacquy and continued to run it. The present castle was built in 1777 and restored in 1910. It consists of two pavilions that are connected by a lower residential wing. One of the descendants of the Lubets married Clément de Lonjon in 1827. With the marriage of her granddaughter Charlotte de Lonjon to the Marquis Paul de Boisséson in 1883, the castle became the property of the Boisséson family, who still have it today. In the 18th and 19th centuries the castle served as a hunting lodge and in the 20th century as a holiday home. With the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, however, it became a permanent residence initially until 1946, then from 1970. During the German occupation of France , the widow of Maurice de Boisséson, who fell in the Ardennes in 1940, was actively involved in the Resistance . The estate extends over 400 hectares, of which 20 hectares are grown for vines and 200 hectares are covered with oak and beech forests, which preserve a diverse fauna and flora. The production of Armagnac on the castle grounds has been proven since the 18th century, a heyday of distillation and marketing of brandy . The castle maintains the tradition of making Armagnac, in particular through the use of an alambic . The brandy is aged in oak barrels in a cellar that dates from 1870. The vintage Armagnac from the Jacquy Castle is exported all over the world.
