Parish Church of Notre-Dame
The church was probably built in the 13th century in Romanesque style. The square apse can be dated to the 13th or 14th century due to the round arched triple window in the east wall, which was later walled up for an altarpiece in the 18th century . This also applies to the sacrament house , which is embedded in the north wall in the same shape. Two side chapels were added to the north and south around 1500 at the end of the Gothic period . A little later, in the course of the 16th century, a third chapel was built northwest of the nave , as shown by the earlier buttresses that were built into the new structure. A large, connecting arcade was broken from the east wall of the north-western chapel. The church is the only one in the region that was spared from pillage by Protestant troops under the leadership of Captain Thoiras during the Huguenot Wars in 1569 . The later renovations therefore took on a smaller scope. A sacristy was built in this context on the north side and an open vestibule as an extension of the side chapel on the north-western side. In the 18th century, some new windows with rounded lintels were used. Apse, nave and the bell gable are middle brickwork erected, the side bands and the Sakristei of partially plastered quarry stone from limestone . The apse, which is higher than the nave, has a ribbed vault and is supported by two thick buttresses in the east. The nave with a main and a side aisle is equipped with a modern ceiling. The side chapels have ribbed vaults that are supported on warriors .
Some important furnishings from the Ancien Régime are still in the church, such as the monumental altarpiece by an unknown artist from the first half of the 18th century. It consists of three parts bounded by four fluted columns of the Corinthian order . The central oil painting with a height of 2.71 m and a width of 1.96 m shows the representation of the Assumption of Mary into heaven . She is carried by four angels and at the bottom of the picture are the apostles at their empty tomb. The lateral sections of the reredos are furnished with arched niches in which the statues of Saint Babylas and another saint stand. The figures, made of painted wood, both show a bishop with a choir shirt , cassock , miter and a gilded cope . The altar itself was created at a later date around 1800, inspired by the works of the brothers Bernard Virgile and Jacques Antoine Mazzetti. The side altars, which are dedicated to Saint Babylas and the Sacred Heart , are believed to date from the early 19th century. The described and many other items of equipment of the church are registered as national cultural assets.
