The Ciron is a river in France that runs in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It rises in the municipality of Lubbon , generally drains to the northwest and flows 97 kilometers into the municipality of Barsac as a left tributary into the Garonne . On his way he crosses the Landes , Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde departments .
Viticulture
The river crosses the wine-growing regions of Barsac and Sauternes . Its cold spring water forms fog when it flows into the warmer water of the Garonne in autumn and thus creates the best conditions for the noble rot fungus Botrytis cinerea , which is necessary for increasing the sugar content of grapes in the production of sweet wines.
