history

Bougue was also called Boga in the Middle Ages and Bougne in the 18th century .

Archaeological finds from the time of the Copper Age show that the area was already between 4300 BC. BC and 2200 BC Was settled. The name Bougue, however, comes from the name of a Gallic tribe, the Boiern, who settled there around 800 BC.

In 1976, after a storm, a gold treasure from Roman times was found near the village. It contained 12,000 pieces from the second half of the 3rd century, coins that were minted under Tetricus I , Claudius Gothicus and Valerian .

Around 1116, Bougue was given the right of Sauveté by the abbot of La Sauve-Majeure Abbey from William VIII , which means that nobody was allowed to be attacked there. This Sauveté was marked by four marker stones.

Around 1135, Bishop Bonhomme von Aire donated the Saint Candide church.

During the Huguenot Wars , and especially in 1569, Bougue suffered looting and murder of the priests. During this time, many residents of Éauze and Manciet were forced to fill the moats and demolish the fortifications. After their return, a part of Bugue was called Éauze et Manciet .

In 1819 the municipality of Agos became part of the municipality of Bougues.

Christian Cenet was elected mayor in 2008
