Lacajunte City Hall

Lacajunte is a French municipality with 153 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Chalosse Tursan (until 2015: canton of Geaune ).

The name is derived from the Gascognic words junta ( German  connection ) and cau ( German  gorge ). In this sense, the name indicates a location in a valley that is enclosed by two hills.

The inhabitants are called Lacajuntois and Lacajuntoises .

Lacajunte is located about 35 km south of Mont-de-Marsan in the Tursan region of the historic Gascogne province on the southern border with the neighboring Pyrénées-Atlantiques department .

Lacajunte is located in the catchment area of ​​the Adour River .

The Gabas , one of its tributaries, marks the north-western border with the neighboring communities. The Louts , another tributary of the Adour, marks the southwestern border to the neighboring communities.

In 2017, the municipality confirmed the “A Flower” award, presented by the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (CNVVF) as part of the annual competition for cities and towns decorated with flowers.

history

The archaeological excavations that were carried out at the beginning of the 20th century on the territory of the municipality, many brought Barrow revealed that the existence of a significant settlement in the ancient history prove. Iron Age burial sites have also been found.

The coat of arms of the municipality is that of the Abbadie de Maslacq family. The greyhound tied to the tree on a gold background means that the area is an excellent hunting ground. The blue section above indicates that the family has royal roots. The two stars and the crescent moon indicate that the family belongs to the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis and was involved in all the crusades to Jerusalem .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of around 340 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to around 130 inhabitants during recovery phases, especially in the 1960s until the turn of the millennium, before a moderate growth phase began.

The Romanesque church was restored in the 19th century. During the French Revolution , revolutionaries took possession of the church property and destroyed part of the church. It has a nave with two naves , which is extended with a flat apse . A rectangular vestibule is built on to the west, from which a triangular bell gable rises with two recesses for the bells.
