Bathing beach on Lac d'Arjuzanx

Arjuzanx ( Gascon Arjusan ) is a village and a former French community with 214 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Arjuzanx belonged to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Pays Morcenais Tarusate . The inhabitants are called Arjuzannais (es) .

The decree of November 16, 2018 established the incorporation of Arjuzanx as a Commune déléguée together with the former municipalities of Morcenx , Garrosse and Sindères to form the Commune nouvelle Morcenx-la-Nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2019 . The administrative headquarters are in Morcenx.

Arjuzanx is located about 32 km northwest of Mont-de-Marsan in the historic province of Gascony . The place is located in the central area Grande- or Haute-Landes in the Forêt des Landes on the river Bès , a right tributary of the Midouze .

Population development

After the beginning of the records, the population rose in the first half of the 19th century to a short-term high of around 810. After another relative high of 795 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century, there was a continuous population decline, which made the size of the place short Recovery phases dropped to around 205 inhabitants by the beginning of the 21st century, before stabilizing at around 215 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • On the eastern edge of the village is Lac d'Arjuzanx , a 2500 hectare fenced nature reserve with meadows, fields and several lakes. The site was created in 1980 through the renaturation of a former brown coal field . The lakes were created by flooding residual holes . There is a guarded beach at one of the lakes near the D38 ( Mimizan - Mont-de-Marsan ). The area is an important wintering and resting area for several thousand cranes .
