Saint-Laurent-Nouan is a French town with 4357 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Loir-et-Cher in the region Center-Val de Loire . It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes du Grand Chambord . There is a city partnership with Winnweiler in Germany.
geography
Saint-Laurent-Nouan is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Orléans on the Loire . The left tributary of the Ardoux flows here .
history
In 1971 the old parishes of Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux and Nouan-sur-Loire formed the new parish of Saint-Laurent-Nouan. The origin of the two old communities lies in the Gallo-Roman times .
In the Middle Ages, Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux belonged to Beaugency . The place was visited by famous people, in 1307 and 1313 by Philip IV of France , in 1429 by Joan of Arc and in 1483 by Charles VIII of France . Louis XIV met Jean-Baptiste Gaston de Bourbon, duc d'Orléans , there in 1659 .
The Château de Bois Renard in Nouan-sur-Loire has been inhabited by the Bodin de Bois Renard family since the 14th century. In the 17th century this family was the manager of Chambord Castle .
Until a rail link was established on the other side of the Loire, Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux and Nouan-sur-Loire were very lively places because the important road from Paris to Bordeaux ran there, and it was also on the Camino de Santiago . Messages were transported on horseback prior to the establishment of the railroad. There were post offices in Saint-Laurent-Nouan .
In 1963, the Saint-Laurent nuclear power plant was built and the city developed again as a result.

The population increased from 1793 to 1872, after which it decreased until 1954. Since 1968 the population has risen sharply.
Attractions
The Saint Aignan church in the Nouan district was built in the 10th century. Only the nave has been preserved from that time . In the 12th century the choir , the apse and the bell tower were built.
The Auberge de l'Image post station was rebuilt in the 18th century and still shows traces of a building from the 16th century (beams and arches on the street side) and 17th century (stairs and entrance to the stables). The building was restored in the 20th century and is now privately owned.
