Montlivault is about ten kilometers northeast of Blois . The northern and northwestern municipal boundaries form the Loire . Montlivault is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cour-sur-Loire in the north and north-west, Suèvres in the north, Maslives in the east, Huisseau-sur-Cosson in the south, Saint-Claude-de-Diray in the west and south-west and Menars in the west.

Montlivault is part of the Cour-Cheverny wine region .
