The municipality is located about 15 kilometers west-southwest of Blois . Santenay is surrounded by the neighboring communities Françay in the north, Herbault in the northeast, Valencisse in the east and northeast, Valloire-sur-Cisse in the east and southeast, Onzain in the south and southeast, Mesland in the south, Dame-Marie-les-Bois in the west and Southwest and Saint-Étienne-des-Guérets in the northwest.
