Cheverny wine region
Cheverny gives the wine-growing region in the higher Loire (wine-growing region) its name. the 2000 hectares of approved vineyards are spread over 24 communities. Of the 2000 hectares, around 400 hectares are currently planted. After the area was defined in 1973 and received the status of a VDQS , Cherverny rose to the rank of Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) on March 26, 1993 . At the same time, the Cour-Cheverny appellation was founded, which is exclusively dedicated to the Romorantin grape variety .
The white wines of the Cheverny wine-growing region are made from Sauvignon Blanc (60–80%) grape varieties with a possible addition of Arbois , Chardonnay or Chenin Blanc (here called Pineau blanc de la Loire ).
The red wines are made from blends of the Gamay and Pinot Noir grape varieties with possible admixtures of Cabernet Franc or Malbec ( called Côt here ). They are very fruity and pleasant to drink when young.
The rosé wines are primarily made from Gamay.
