List of grape varieties

Arbois is a white wine that is mainly grown on the Loire (see also Loire (wine-growing region) ). The variety is permitted in the wines of Touraine , Cheverny and Valençay .

Origin, descent

Comes from France. A Heunisch descendant - the crossing partners are not yet exactly known.

distribution

In France, the area was 1282 ha in 1958, 415 ha in 1999 and 205 ha in 2013.

Ampelographic variety characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white, with a carmine-red tinge. The yellow-green young leaves are slightly woolly hairy.
  • The small blue-green leaves are thick, usually wholly or slightly lobed. The stalk bay is closed like a lyre. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface is blistered and coarse.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is small and elongated. The slightly oval berries are small and white-gold in color. The berries are very juicy.

Maturity: matures approx. 15 days after the Gutedel and is therefore still considered to ripen early.

properties

The vigorous variety has a medium to high yield of 40–80 hl / ha.

Wine

Compared to the Chenin Blanc grape variety , the wines have a lower acid content , are softer but also less structured. Arbois produces both single-variety and blended wines with Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc . However, it has nothing to do with the wines of the same name from the appellation in the Jura .
