The Nina River is a 17 km long river in the Hurunui District , in the north of the Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The headwaters of the Nina River are around 14 km southwest of Lewis Pass and 1.5 km west of the 1660 m high Mount Hatless . From its headwaters, the river flows in a generous left turn towards the east, towards the Lewis River , into which the Nina River finally flows.
Nina Valley Track
Near the Palmer Lodge and from the confluence of the Nina River into the Lewis River , about 2 km upstream of the Lewis River is the starting point of the Nina Valley Track , which is accessible from New Zealand State Highway 7 . The western bank of the river can be reached via a bridge, from where the hiking trail leads into the valley of the Nina River and over the Nina Valley Campsite and the Nina Hut refuge up to Upper Nina Bivouac . The tour to the bivouac is given as 5 hours.
