The population decline in the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms.

economy

In earlier centuries the residents lived on the yields of their fields, pastures and gardens as self-sufficient. The community is still largely agriculturally oriented, with livestock also playing a significant role. Craftsmen and small service providers have settled in the village itself. Since the 1960s, some vacant houses have been rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .

history

The first mention of the name Sanctus Georgius de las Blos comes from the 13th century; It is unclear whether a place or just a commandery of the Knights Templar or St. John already existed at that time.

Attractions

  • The single-nave church of the village is dedicated to St. Consecrated to George ; she acted in the 13./14. Century as a chapel of a commandery of the Order of Malta and hides two painted "mourning bands" ( litres funeraires ) with the coats of arms of the later landlords (seigneurs) in the flat, closed choir area . The overall rather simple church building has been recognized as a monument historique since 1961 .
  • The immediately adjacent Château de Saint-Jory originally dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. Century; the core building ( logis ) was in the 17./18. Century renewed. The complex still has three late medieval stair towers . There is a simple cubic pigeon house (colombier) with a pyramid roof on the castle grounds .
Surroundings
  • Approx. 4 km southwest of the village is the 19th century Château de Laubertie .
