Nanthiat , Occitan Nantiac is a French municipality with 239 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) of the northeastern departments of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
etymology
Nanthiat, Occitan Nantiac , is derived from Nantuacum meaning domain of Nantuus (or Nantius ) ( Roman or Gallo-Roman proper name + final syllable -acum ). Also to be considered is the Gallic root nanto (valley), alluding to the Isle valley.
geography
Nanthiat is 5 kilometers east of Thiviers and 20 kilometers southwest of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche (beeline). The municipality is surrounded by the following neighboring municipalities:
- Sarrazac in the north
- Saint-Sulpice-d'Excideuil to the east and south-east
- Corgnac-sur-l'Isle to the south and
- Nantheuil in the west.
In addition to the town center, the community consists of the following hamlets, farmsteads, mills, a paper mill and a castle:
Bourneix , Castilloux (paper mill), Champdoré , Château de Nanthiat , Finette (mill), Grelière , La Côte , La Coutille , La Croix des Bois , La Croze , La Forêt , Labauberie , Laborie , Lavergne , Le Buisson , Le Pont de Madame , Les Combas , Les Jarthes , Les Longeix , Les Mitardes , Les Tibles , Leycuras , Magenaud , Moulin de Madame , Marcou , Monchaty , Nazac , Nègrevergne , Puybarbeau , Rochepeau and Sinsac .
The western border of the municipality is formed by the Isle , which flows southwards . As a left branch it receives the Lavaud , which marks the northern border with Sarrazac. A little further down the valley, the Isle picks up the Sabate cake, which also comes from the left . The southern border is formed by a small, also on the left-hand side, stream that rises near the hamlet of La Croze .
The topographically deepest point in the municipality with 136 meters above sea level is at La Forêt on the southwest corner of the Isle, which leaves the municipality here. The highest point at 313 meters is near Bourneix in the northeast. The absolute height difference is therefore 177 meters.
geology
In the municipality of Nanthiat, the metamorphic basement of the Massif Central comes to light. Predominantly rocks of the Thiviers-Payzac unit such as the Rhyodacites of the Thiviers sandstone ( French: Grès de Thiviers ) are exposed . The volcanic Grès de Thiviers are then in the north of Serizitschiefern ( Donzenac Slate replaced) consisting pelites and Areniten should have emerged and greywacke layers contain. A special feature in the middle of the serite slate band are metavolcanic keratophyres that are found at Bourneix . This is followed again along the northern border by the Grès de Thiviers, which are here in their higher metamorphic facies as Payzac quartzite . When they lead Nègrevergne a green slate band consisting of former dolerites and basaltic tuffs emerged. Also worth mentioning are the numerous diabase passages that cut through the southern Grès de Thiviers (around le Pont de Madame ).
In the south of the municipality, the Corgnac granite is intruded into the Grès de Thiviers , to be seen at Finette and Les Mitardes . It is a cataclasmic granite of monzonite composition, which caused a contact metamorphosis in the Grès de Thiviers , recognizable on the horn rock near La Forêt . In its edge area (at Finette ) the granite is present as orthogneiss .
Structurally, the generally east-southeast-trending metamorphic rocks form a syhklinorium (extension of the Génis syncline ) in the southern part and an anticlinorium (extension of the Saint-Mesmin anticline ) with steep foliation in the northern part . The foliation is in the valley of the pie Sabate very clearly developed.
The degree of metamorphosis generally increases in a northerly direction, when the Sabate cake is reached the biotite - and only slightly further north at Sinsac the almandine - isograd is exceeded.
The basement is transgressed by flat lying (maximum angle of incidence 6 ° to the northeast) sediments of the northern Aquitaine Basin , which start here with the Lias (the main occurrences are east of the town center). The series begins with the Lower Hettangian - conglomerates , sandstones and arcoses . The following upper hettangium is dolomitic and is mostly silicified. The Sinemurium is oolithic and also often silicified. The series ends with coarse, partly dolomitic sandstones from the Pliensbachium .
In the area of the center of Nanthiat, the basement and the Lias are covered by river gravel from the Pleistocene . The alluvial gravel at Champdoré may date back to the Pliocene . The slopes northwest of Grelière be of würmeiszeitlichem scree covered. Recent sediments have settled in the river plains of the Isle, the Torte Sabate and the Lavaud .
history
The Château de Nanthiat dates back to the 16th century.
