The places Cherveix , Cubas and Saint-Martial-Laborie were merged in 1829. The population decline, which continued up to the turn of the millennium, is essentially due to the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms.
economy
The community is still largely agriculturally oriented, with livestock also playing a certain role. Craftsmen and small service providers have settled in the villages.
history
The places were already settled in the Middle Ages
Attractions
- The founding of the Romanesque church Saint-Martial-Laborie is attributed to the local landlords (seigneurs) or to the Knights Templar (later the Order of Malta ). The single-nave and almost windowless church has an apse and a crossing tower has a certain defensive character ; it has been recognized as a monument historique since 1974 .
- The Saint-Roch church in Cherveix dates from the 19th century. The tower was struck by lightning on July 1, 2014, causing some stones to fall to the ground.
- The originally Romanesque church of Cubas collapsed in 1836 and was then rebuilt in a slightly modified form, but with rubble stones .
- A death lantern with a round cross-section dates from the 13th century; it has been recognized as a monument historique since 1939 .
- The partly late medieval mansion Le Temple de l'Eau underwent subsequent renovations. The site originally belonged to the Knights Templar. The building has been recognized as a monument historique since 1975 .
