The Notre-Dame church in Lempzours |
The French commune of Lempzours , in Occitan Lemzor , is located in the north of the Dordogne department in the Aquitaine region . It has 134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is one of the ten municipalities in the canton of Thiviers .
etymology
The origin of the place name Lempzours, in Occitan Lemzor, is obscure. Possibly there is a connection with the Occitan word linjoira ( French lanière ) with the meaning seam , edge , edge of the forest (or with the Latin limites - borders).
geography
The municipality of Lempzours is 14 kilometers east of Brantôme and ten kilometers southwest of Thiviers (as the crow flies). It is surrounded by the following neighboring communities:
- Vaunac in the northeast
- Négrondes in the southeast and south
- Saint-Front-d'Alemps in the southwest and
- Saint-Pierre-de-Côle to the west, northwest and north.
In addition to the town center, the community consists of the following hamlets, farmsteads, brickworks, castles and a manor:
Blanchardie , Bosvert , Château de Feydoux , Fauconnie , Imbord , La Coudercherie , La Doretie , La Guionie , La Prairie , La Rivarie , La Vaure , Le Château Reynaud , Les Jarthes , Les Renaudies , Les Roules , Les Tuileries , Pierre-Edmond , Pioriol , Plante-Fève , Termes , Terrassonie and Tuilerie des Roules .
The main flood of the community is the northwest flowing Rase , a left, temporarily drying branch of the Côle . In the north, the municipality barely reaches a left side branch of the Côle that drains to the west and which also falls temporarily dry. A split on the left of this branch forms the northeast border to Vaunac for almost 2 kilometers.
The topographically lowest point in the municipality of Lempzours at 137 meters above sea level is located on the north corner in the left side valley of the Côle. The highest point at 232 meters is found in two places - at Fauconnie in the southeast and at Chef de la Lande (municipality of Vaunac) in the east. The maximum difference in altitude is 95 meters.
geology
The geological structure of the municipality of Lempzours is relatively simple and consists of the flat Upper Cretaceous of the northern Aquitaine Basin , which is largely covered by Pleistocene cover sediments. Angoumien ( rudist limestone ) and coniacium ( fossil limestone ) are open . The shell sediments are river gravel and their colluvial redistribution products.
The Angoumien lines the valley of the Rase and can also be found along the side valley on the northern border. The town center is on Upper Angoumien. The subsequent Coniacium is found on the lawn and in small, isolated deposits. The shell sediments take up a good 80% of the municipal area, with the river gravel building up the high areas. Worm Ice Age debris forms the valley filling of the northern side valley of the Côle. Recent alluvium has been deposited in the valley floor of the Rase .
Sound switches in the shell sediments were extracted as raw material for the local brickworks.
history
Prehistoric finds have been made in the municipality of Lempzours , and some traces from the Gallo-Roman era have been preserved. Remains of Merovingian tombs have been discovered near the Romanesque local church of Notre-Dame from the twelfth century . The Château de Feydoux and the Manoir de la Guionie are from the seventeenth century .
