Clermont-d'Excideuil ( Occitan Clarmont d'Eissiduelh ) is a southern French municipality with 232 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (before 2016 Aquitaine ). It consists of the main town and several hamlets (hameaux) and individual farms (fermes) .
Location and climate
The place Clermont-d'Excideuil is a good 38 km (driving distance) northeast of Périgueux in the wooded Périgord vert at an altitude of about 235 m . The climate is temperate; Rain (approx. 970 mm / year) falls over the year.

The population decline in the 20th century is mainly due to the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms.
economy
The community is still largely agriculturally oriented, with livestock also playing a significant role. Craftsmen and small service providers have settled in the village itself. Since the 1960s, some vacant houses have been rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
The first mention under the name Villa Sanctae Mariai Clari Montis comes from the year 551. In a document of the 13th century the place was called Clarmon . During the French Revolution , i. H. from 1792 to 1795 the place was renamed Montclair .
Attractions
- The Église Notre-Dame de l'Assomption has a medieval origin, which has been changed several times. The interior contains an altarpiece from the 16th century, restored in 2006, and a polychrome statue of a Madonna and Child from the 17th century, which was listed as a historical monument in 1961.
- The water of a spring (Fontaine Sainte-Catherine) near the place was said to have a beneficial effect on the milk of the wet nurses ; there was even a regional pilgrimage.
- The manor of the Château du Noyer , located in the north-west of the municipality, dates from the 19th century.

- Geoffroy du Breuil , a 12th century chronicler who coined the term " Albigenser ", came from Clermont .
