Génis ( Janiç in Occitan ) is a French commune with 478 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (before 2016 Aquitaine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Nontron ( Périgueux until 2017 ) and the Isle-Loue-Auvézère canton, which has been in existence since 2015 ( Hautefort until 2015 ). The community consists of the town of the same name and several hamlets (hameaux) and individual farms (fermes) .
Location and climate
The place Génis is about 45 km (driving distance) northeast of Périgueux or about 70 km south of Limoges on the river Auvézère at an altitude of about 275 m . The climate is temperate; Rain (approx. 900 mm / year) falls over the year.

history
The place was already settled in the Middle Ages. In the first years of the French Revolution , ie from 1790 to 1793, he belonged to the Corrèze department and only then came to the Dordogne department.
