Bourdeilles is a French municipality with 743 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the north of the department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Nontron and the canton of Brantôme . The inhabitants are called Bourdeillais .
geography
Bourdeilles is located 19 kilometers north-northwest of Périgueux in the Périgord on the Boulou , which flows into the Dronne here . Bourdeilles is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles in the north, Brantôme en Périgord in the north-east, Biras in the south-east, Bussac and Lisle in the south, Grand-Brassac in the south-west, Creyssac in the west and Paussac-et-Saint-Vivien in the West and northwest.
history
The caves near Bourdeilles, especially the Fourneau du Diable cave , show the well-known Franco-Cantabrian cave art from the Magdalenian period .
Bourdeilles was one of the four baronies in the Périgord in the 10th century. Edward I expanded Bourdeilles Castle further.
