Vladimir Volkoff
Vladimir Volkoff (born November 7, 1932 in Paris , † September 14, 2005 in Bourdeilles ) was a French writer and author of espionage novels, science fiction and historical books. Under the pseudonym "Leutnant X" ( French Lieutenant X ) he wrote the youth book series secret agent Lennet ( French Langelot ).
Life
Vladimir Volkoff was born in Paris in 1932 as the son of Russian emigrants. He studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris and received a doctorate in history from the University of Liège.
From 1957 he worked for the French military intelligence service during the Algerian War, but after retiring from the service in 1962, he started his career as a spy writer, partly under his pseudonym Lavr Divomlikoff.
The novel "Le Retournement" (The Reversal) was his international breakthrough in 1979.
Vladimir Volkoff also wrote historical and contemporary books. His biographies about the Kiev Grand Duke Vladimir I and the composer Tchaikovsky were noted . Volkoff's great-aunt was Tchaikovsky's cousin. He translated Charles Dickens' “ The Pickwick Papers ” into French. He worked with Jane Atwood and Anne de Boismilon on a book about the Foreign Legion .
Volkoff died in his holiday home in Périgord.
