Order master
Master of the Order - or Master of the Order - is originally the highest office ( superior general ) of some Christian religious orders . The term was also adopted for official designations in some secular associations that are structured in a similar way to religious orders, e.g. B. Wine fraternities .
If there are several masters of the order, an additional designation applies:
- A grand master presides over various orders of knights .
- The Teutonic Order is the Grand Master before.
- The since the Reformation Protestant Order of St. John is the Herrenmeister ago.
- In the Dominican order the Latin title is Magister Ordinis , German "Ordensmeister" or " Generalmeister ".
- In the Mercedarian Order , the Italian title is Maestro Generale , German Generalmagister .
