The canton of Brantôme is a French canton in the arrondissement Nontron and Perigueux , in the Dordogne and in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Périgueux District". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Périgueux.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Brantôme included the eleven municipalities of Agonac , Biras , Bourdeilles , Brantôme , Bussac , Eyvirat , Lisle , Saint-Front-d'Alemps , Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles , Sencenac-Puy -de-Fourches and Valeuil . Its layout corresponded to an area of 220.17 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 2404.

2019: Fusion Brantôme en Périgord , Cantillac , Eyvirat , La Gonterie-Boulouneix , Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont , Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles , Sencenac-Puy-de-Fourches and Valeuil → Brantôme en Périgord
2017: Merger of Beaussac , Champeaux-et-la-Chapelle-Pommier , Léguillac-de-Cercles , Les Graulges , Mareuil , Monsec , Puyrenier , Saint-Sulpice-de-Mareuil and Vieux-Mareuil → Mareuil en Périgord
