The canton Jumilhac-le-Grand was by 2015 a French constituency in Arrondissement Nontron , in the Dordogne and in the region of Aquitaine . The capital of the canton is Jumilhac-le-Grand , whose representative in the General Council was last from 1998 to 2015 Michel Karp.
The canton was 221.40 km² and had (2008) 5,016 inhabitants, which corresponds to a population density of 23 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 291 meters above sea level , between 165 m in Saint-Paul-la-Roche and 491 m in Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie .
The canton bordered in the north and northeast on the cantons Châlus and Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche , both in the arrondissement Limoges in the department Haute-Vienne ( Limousin ), in the southeast on the canton Lanouaille , in the south on the canton Thiviers and in the west the canton of Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière , all three in the Arrondissement of Nontron.
The canton's drainage was mainly in a south to south-westerly direction, the main rivers being from east to west are Isle , Valouse and Côle .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Nontron District". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Nontron.
