The canton of Mareuil was a French constituency in the arrondissement Nontron in the Dordogne department and in the Aquitaine region until 2015 ; Its main town was Mareuil , the last representative in the General Council of the Département was Jean-Paul Couvy, who belongs to the PS , from 2008 to 2015 .
The canton was 225.10 km² and had (2008) 3,546 inhabitants. It was on average at 143 meters above sea level , between 85 m in La Rochebeaucourt-et-Argentine and 251 m in Champeaux-et-la-Chapelle-Pommier .
The canton bordered on the northeast by the canton of Nontron , in the east on the canton Champagnac-de-Belair , in the southeast on the canton of Brantôme , on the southwest by the Canton Verteillac , in the west on the canton of Villebois-Lavalette ( Charente ) and on the northwest by the canton of Montbron (Charente).
With the exception of the commune of Les Graulges, the Mareuil canton was an integral part of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park .

The Mareuil canton was very sparsely populated. The municipality of Mareuil had most of the inhabitants, and at the same time it had the highest population density. The largest municipality in terms of area, however, was Vieux-Mareuil. Slightly above-average population densities were found in La Rochebeaucourt-et-Argentine and Combiers in the north-west towards Charente.
