The former town hall (Mairie) of Puyrenier

Puyrenier ( Occitan Puei Rainier ) is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Mareuil en Périgord with 56 inhabitants (as at 1st January 2017) in the northwest of the department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The Commune déléguée area forms part of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park .

etymology

Puyrenier, often also written Puyrénier , in Occitan Puei Rainier , is derived from puy (hill) and the Germanic first name Rainier (or Rainer). The place offers a beautiful view to the northeast from its hilltop position.

geography

The municipality of Puyrenier was surrounded by the following municipalities:

The Commune déléguée next to the town center with the castle, the '' Château de Bellevue '', from the following hamlets, farms and another castle:

Champellat , Château de la Combe , Chez Picou , Croix d'Agneau , La Meynardie , La Meyrie , Lacaud , Matassia and Nanchères .

The Commune déléguée borders in the north on the Nizonne, which flows in a west-northwest direction . A 2 kilometer long dry valley runs east of the town center in a northerly direction, it flows into the Nizonne at Le Moulin d'Aucors (Commune déléguée Beaussac). Another valley with only temporary water forms the southwest border to Mareuil and Sainte-Croix-de Mareuil, it also flows into the Nizonne after 3 kilometers in the northwest below Lacaud .

The topographically lowest point in the Commune déléguée area at 105 meters above sea level is on the Nizonne near Lacaud , where the river leaves the Commune déléguée Puyrenier. The highest point at 203 meters is located on a north-west-south-east trending ridge about 1 kilometer west of the town center. The maximum difference in altitude was therefore almost 100 meters.

geology

The Commune déléguée Puyrenier is completely underlain by Upper Cretaceous sediments of the northeast Aquitaine Basin . The sequence of layers belongs to the north wing of the Combiers-Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont syncline . The strata strike northwest-southeast and dip slightly to the southwest at 10 °. The lowest exposed layer member are the uppermost layers of the Angoumiens ( Rudistenkalke of the Oberturon ). They line the left bank of the Nizonne. Hard, crystalline limestones of the Coniacium follow on top . The lower and upper santonium - gray, glauconite-bearing limestones and marl limestones with oyster shells - lay over the coniacium . The border between Lower and Upper Canton runs through the town center. The upper chalk sediments at La Meynardie and Croix d'Agneau are covered by Pleistocene colluvium , which emerged from the sands of the Santonian.

history

The oldest preserved building in Puyrenier is the Château de Bellevue from the seventeenth century .

The municipality of Puyrenier became with effect from January 1, 2017 with the municipalities of Champeaux-et-la-Chapelle-Pommier , Les Graulges , Léguillac-de-Cercles , Mareuil , Monsec , Beaussac , Saint-Sulpice-de-Mareuil and Vieux-Mareuil merged to form the Commune nouvelle Mareuil en Périgord and has since had the status of a Commune déléguée there. It belonged to the canton of Brantôme (until 2015 to the canton of Mareuil )
