La Gonterie-Boulouneix , Occitan La Gontariá e Bolones , is a former French community with 249 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) of the northwestern department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

etymology

The place name La Gonterie-Boulouneix is a double name made up of La Gonterie and Boulouneix . La Gonterie is a proper name that refers to the Gontier estate , a well-known patronymic in the region. Bolouneix is derived from the Latin adjective Bolonensis , d. H. belonging to the river Bolon (in Occitan) or Boulou .

La Gonterie-Boulouneix consists of three somewhat larger, formerly independent districts: Belaygue , Boulouneix and La Gonterie . There are also the following hamlets and individual farms: Champat , Champébre , Champtonie , Chazeau , Chez Jaumelet , Garelias , L'Étang , La Chataignade , La Combardie , La Nègrerie , La Plagne , La Suchonie , La Sudrie or Les Sudries , La Tabaterie , Landrivie , Le (s) Bernard (s) , Le Clos du Pont , Le Couderc or Le Coudert , Le Haut-Palange , Le Maine , Leforesterie , Les Boutétias , Les Marquisats , Maison-neuve , Malet , Moulin de la Faye and Palange .

The local area is drained by the Boulou and its left tributary, the Belaygue, in a south-westerly direction. The Boulou represents the north-west boundary of La Gonterie-Boulouneix several times. Coming from the northeast, the Belaygue flows through the Belaygue district of the same name and then flows past just south of Boulouneix . The two watercourses finally unite in the extreme southwest corner of the local area.

La Gonterie-Boulouneix is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities and delegated municipalities:

The center of La Gonterie is located five kilometers northwest of Brantôme and 17 kilometers south-southwest of Nontron (as the crow flies).

In terms of traffic, the local area is not crossed by any major road. The center of La Gonterie is connected by a municipal road with the further northeast running D 939 from Brantôme to Mareuil , it is located about 2 kilometers from this main traffic axis .

The orographically deepest point of La Gonterie-Boulouneix is about 105 meters above sea level at the confluence of the Boulou and the Belaygue in the extreme southwest. The highest point reaches 202 meters at Champat at the northeast end.

La Gonterie-Boulouneix is located on the edge of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park .

The local area is largely underlain by flat layers of the Coniacium . In the Bouloutal near the Marquisat in the north, stratigraphically deeper oberturons ( angoumies ) also emerge . The high elevations around La Gonterie already consist of lower santonium . The Coniacium forms steep walls in the Bouloutal with several caves and abrises (cave of La Sudrie, abrises of La Nègrerie and La Tabaterie). Between the Marquisat and Belaygue, a fault coming from Monsec crosses the local area in a north-west-south-east direction. The disorder is an extension of the Mareuil anticline . The Upper Chalk sediments are partly covered by colluvial and alluvial detritus of the Pleistocene in some high areas .

The presence of humans in La Gonterie-Boulouneix can be traced back to the Paleolithic . In the south-west near the abrises of Sendouge (also Sandougne ) and La Tabaterie, remains from the Moustérien were found . During the Second Iron Age around 600 to 500 BC A partly fortified, 13.5 hectare oppidum was laid out on Roc Plat 20 to 30 meters above the Abris of Sendouge . The remains of a brick aqueduct in the old cemetery of Boulouneix date from Roman times . The Saintonge style Romanesque church of Boulouneix dates back to the 12th century. A monks' convent, dependent on the Abbey in Brantôme, used to be located here, which is why the small settlement was also called Labayat . Around the same time the Benedictines founded a priory for noble nuns in Belaygue , of which only the ruins can be seen today. The church of La Gonterie dates from the 18th century. In 1806 the former municipality of Belaygue was merged with Boulouneix. The current place name has existed since 1912.

The decree of November 6, 2018, with effect from January 1, 2019, incorporated La Gonterie-Boulouneix as a Commune déléguée together with the former municipalities of Brantôme en Périgord , Eyvirat , Cantillac , Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont , Sencenac-Puy- de-Fourches and Valeuil for the new Commune nouvelle Brantôme en Périgord .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of 680 in the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, a phase of stagnation set in, which caused the number of residents to fall to 195 with short recovery periods by the 1990s a period of moderate growth began.
