Valeuil is a former French commune of 340 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) of the North department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Aquitaine ). The municipality belonged to the Arrondissement Nontron (until 2015 Périgeux ) and the canton Brantôme . The inhabitants are called Valeuillais .

Valeuil is located seventeen kilometers north-northwest of Périgueux in the Périgord on the Dronne .

history
The decree of November 6, 2018, with effect from January 1, 2019, incorporated Valeuil as a Commune déléguée together with the former municipalities of Brantôme en Périgord , Eyvirat , La Gonterie-Boulouneix , Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont , Sencenac-Puy- de-Fourches and Cantillac for the new Commune nouvelle Brantôme en Périgord .
Population development
After records began, the population rose to a high of 785 in the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, a phase of stagnation set in, which caused the number of residents to fall to around 265 after a short recovery period by the 1970s. A growth phase followed, which increased the size of the community to over 400 inhabitants, before another phase of stagnation set in.
