Lanouaille is a French commune with 1,017 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nontron and the Isle-Loue-Auvézère .

geography

The municipality in the east of the Périgord Vert extends over a plateau between the upper Loue , which forms the western border of the municipality, and the Auvézère valley , about 40 kilometers northeast of Périgueux and 50 kilometers south of Limoges .

etymology

The name Lanouaille is derived from La Nouvelle meaning “the new (city)”.

history

In 1801 Lanouaille became the capital of the canton, while before that it was the neighboring town of Dussac . In 1944 the place suffered reprisals by the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" on their way to Normandy .
