Payzac is a French village with 980 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Nontron and the canton of Isle-Loue-Auvézère . The place lies on a hill above the valley of the river Auvézère .

history

In the Middle Ages, Payzac belonged to the Vice-County of Limoges . In 1608 it was sold to the du Mas de Paysac family .

The place was written Peisac , Peyzac , Paysac , then Payzac since the end of the 19th century . In 1961 the official Payzac-de-Lanouaille was replaced by Payzac .
